Tian Tian Fa Pau Public Arts

Fa Pau Parade is one of the major celebrations of traditional festivals in Hong Kong. Fa Pau is a ritual tower, adorned with paper craft offerings, to honor the Goddess of the Sea, Tin Hau. During the celebration of her birthday -Tin Hau Festival - Fa Pau Parade is held, together with dragon dances, lion dances and Fa Pau competition. It is believed that the winning villagers in Fa Pau competition will gain good fortune and protection in the coming year. Whenever there is a newborn male baby, villagers craft Fa Paai for celebration as well. Fa Paai is a bamboo structure with flora decoration, which is also used in business openings or anniversaries.

Bringing in a new theme this year, Tian Tian Xiang Shang (TTXS) presents a 30-feet Fa Pau with various Fa Paais, infused with Danny Yung’s creation - Tian Tian sculptures. This brand new stylish Fa Pau will be displayed at the foyer of Hong Kong Cultural Centre, wishing Hong Kong good luck.
To promote community arts, Danny Yung, partnered with 11 local designers or art practitioners, has created a series of Tian Tian Xiang Shang sculptures, with the Year of the Monkey and community as their theme. This series of sculptures was showcased at Yau Ma Tei Community Centre Rest Garden (Yung Shue Tau), as the first exhibition of TTXS Temple Street Public Arts Action. Here goes the second.
